Thariyari is a premium rice product, obtained naturally during the rice milling process. Traditionally in Kerala, “Kuthari” (raw rice) is pounded using wooden mortars. During this process, grains break naturally, producing rice in different sizes. These broken grains are not discarded; instead, they are carefully separated and used for various traditional dishes. Thariyari is slightly coarse, granulated broken rice, which is highly nutritious and easily digestible, suitable for all age groups and ideal for preparing baby food, porridge, gruels, and traditional dishes.
Thariyari, with its slightly coarse texture, is ideal for kanji, payasam, and traditional preparations. Authentic by-product of Kerala’s traditional rice processing, where indigenous rice varieties are gently pounded rather than mechanically polished. This age-old method preserves the grain’s natural nutrients while producing rice in varied textures.
